Growing your Instagram as a real estate agent can be tough. If you’re posting and not seeing the engagement or results you’ve been hoping for, this article is for you!

Engagement is the lifeblood of any successful social media strategy. Meaningful engagement is more than just likes and comments—it’s about building relationships and trust, and creating a loyal following of potential buyers & sellers. High engagement signals to Instagram’s algorithm that your content is valuable and relevant, which leads to increased visibility and reach so you can connect with more people. Ultimately, higher engagement translates into more leads, clients, and opportunities for real estate agents, so improving it is always important!

How Do You Get More Engagement on Instagram For Real Estate Agents?

Create Quality Content

As you might have guessed, content is king on Instagram. The key to sparking engagement (and attracting the right people) lies in creating content that captivates and resonates with your audience. Share high-quality photos and videos of your properties or hot properties in the area (with listing agent permission), use attention-grabbing captions that share a lot of value, and leverage storytelling to connect with your followers on a deeper level.

Know Your Audience

Understanding your audience’s preferences, interests, and pain points is essential for crafting content that resonates. Knowing who your ideal client is will make crafting content that speaks to them and resonates with them easier. We show you how to do this and create content for your audience in our new Instagram course!

Ask Questions

Encourage interaction by asking questions in your captions or Instagram Stories. Whether it’s soliciting feedback on a property, polling your audience’s preferences, or simply asking for their thoughts, prompting engagement invites your followers to participate and share their opinions. Doing this will also help you with Instagram’s algorithm as it prioritizes those that are interacting with their followers/audience!

Engage Authentically

Don’t exclusively focus on broadcasting your message—engage with your audience authentically so you can build connections and trust. Respond to comments promptly, acknowledge and appreciate your followers’ contributions, and engage in genuine conversations. Building rapport with your audience fosters trust and loyalty over time.

Utilize Instagram Stories

Stories are a great way to give viewers a little more behind the scenes information and help them get a more personal view of you. You’re not just an agent, you’re a local and a multi-faceted person! Stories are the perfect way to showcase more of your personality, interests, and daily life so you can create more meaningful connections. Offer behind-the-scenes glimpses into your life as a real estate agent, give property tours or point out unique features, and share day-in-the-life content can humanize your brand and make you more relatable to your followers.

Make It Local

Your ideal audience is made up of those that are currently looking to buy or sell, or will be in the future (or know someone who is!) so make some of your content local so you can attract this crowd. This means sharing local things to do, upcoming events and happenings in your area, and even spotlighting some of your favorite nearby businesses or restaurants. Show people what it’s like to live there and why it’s so great!

Use Hashtags Strategically

Hashtags are a powerful tool for increasing your content’s discoverability on Instagram. Including them helps tell Instagram what your content is about and who it’s for so definitely make sure to include them! Research relevant hashtags in the real estate industry, as well as local hashtags specific to your target market, and incorporate them into your posts and Reels to reach a wider audience.
