Instagram has become one of the most important tools in a real estate agent’s marketing arsenal. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the industry, Instagram has the unique ability to level the playing field and give you the opportunity to reach new people, build your brand and differentiate yourself from the other agents in your area. If you’re not using Instagram to your advantage, now is the time to get started!

So how do you get more followers on Instagram as a real estate agent? 

It’s not as hard as you might think!

While there are a lot of gurus out there that overcomplicate things, Instagram growth for real estate agents really comes down to three basic things:

1. Consistency

Like with most other things in life, consistency is key when it comes to Instagram growth. Consistency signals to your audience that you are reliable and committed to providing valuable content regularly, as well as helps reinforce your brand’s messaging.

Consistently posting regular posts and Reels will also help you get better visibility as the Instagram algorithm favors accounts that post consistently and engage with their audience regularly. By staying active on the platform and consistently sharing content, you’re more likely to appear in users’ feeds and attract new followers.

2. Content Pillars

Posting strategic content (AKA more of the right things) is just as important as posting frequently. So what are content pillars?

Content pillars are overarching themes or topics that form the foundation of your social media content strategy. They provide a framework for organizing your ideas and ensure consistency across your posts, and can be helpful in keeping your messaging focused and helping your audience understand what your brand/page is all about. 

Come up with 3-5 topics that reflect your brand that you consistently want to talk about on social media, then brainstorm sub-topics for your actual content every month!

Some great content pillars for real estate agents are:

1. Property Showcases: Highlighting new listings, featured properties, and giving virtual tours of your listings and other hot listings in your area (with the permission of the listing agent of course!)

2. Market Insights: Sharing market trends, statistics, and expert analysis for your area.

3. Local Community: Showcasing local attractions, events, and neighborhood spotlights.

4. Home Buying/Selling Tips: Providing valuable tips, advice, and resources for both buyers and sellers.

5. Personal Branding: Offering glimpses into your personal life, hobbies, and interests to humanize your brand.

3. Reels With Excellent Hooks

Like it or not, Reels are here to stay and can make a huge impact on your business. First of all, if you haven’t already seen them, Reels are short, engaging videos that allow users to create and share content up to 60 seconds long.

Instagram is a highly visual platform. As such, video performs extremely well and frankly, it just tends to be more fun to watch than looking at a bunch of pictures! Utilizing Reels on Instagram is key to growing your followers and attracting your dream clients. 

Reels also give you an even greater opportunity to be seen on Instagram. They appear on the Explore page, giving you the opportunity to reach a wider audience beyond just your followers, and they also tend to be favored currently in the Instagram algorithm.

Tips for making great Reels:

  • Keep It Simple: With a maximum duration of 60 seconds, it’s essential to keep Reels short and to the point. Focus on one key message or idea per video to maintain viewer engagement. Avoid adding too much to the video/screen – you can always elaborate on topics in your caption!

  • Provide Value: Whether it’s offering insider tips, showcasing local events or things to do in your area, or providing sneak peeks of upcoming listings, ensure that your Reels provide value to your audience. Think about the questions your potential buyers and sellers will have and use Reels to answer them in the form of a video!

  • Use Trending Audio: Ever notice that little arrow pointing up to the left of the name of the audio in a Reel? That means it’s currently trending. Using an audio that’s currently trending increases your likelihood of landing on the Explore page for people interested in your Reel topic and it can really expand your reach. Always use trending audio when you can!
